We had a wonderful field trip to the Mystic Aquarium. The weather was perfect for us, just enough time for us to explore and eat lunch outside. Thank you again to all of the chaperones who took time out of their busy lives to take such good care of all of the kids. We couldn't do it without you! We video taped the performances and will be showing them at conferences! We worked so hard practicing our fluency and expression with three plays: Little Red, Three Billy Goats Gruff and Three Little Pigs. Great job, first graders! Thank you so much to all of you for making our first field trip such a success! All of the kids had their snacks in paper bags, a nice lunch and were on time. We also had 6 volunteers who freely took a group of kids to explore. I was so impressed by the student's fantastic behavior during the presentations and also during free exploration. They were attentive listeners, polite, and understood the importance of staying with their group. I hope you are enjoying the snow day! When it comes to holidays in Room 12, we don't mess around... and Thanksgiving was no exception. We were able to draw on our tablecloths, make Thanksgiving cards, do Daily 5, make fun shaving cream art, interview one another to decide if we would make good turkeys, and last but not least, enjoy a one pot Thanksgiving feast. In room 12 we like to think of ourselves as family. We have a poster on our board which reads, "We may not have it all together, but together we have it all". We try very hard to remember that everyone brings someone different to the table, and each person plays a very important part in our "feast"... I mean, how much fun would a Thanksgiving be with just turkey?! As our insect unit comes to a close, it is time to start out final project. The little ones will be researching one insect using Pebblego- a fabulous, kid friendly research site and following the 3-2-1 model. They will write three things they learned, 2 interesting facts, and one question they still have even after researching. We will then pair up, share our information and interview the other insect making a video on PuppetPals. Take a look at our little researchers are work! Interested in checking out Pebblego for yourself? Click on worthwhile websites to see it. Ask your child for the login information! :) The weather may have been a little dreary, but we did not let it dampen our adventure! What a GREAT time we had searching, hunting and capturing all kinds of six legged creatures. Now while room 12 is working we can hear the quiet music of our grasshoppers! Thank you to Ms. Martin and all of the moms and dads who were able to join in on our walk. Check out what the little ones have to say about our exciting morning!
