The past couple of weeks we have been learning about the Magic E. We cut out practice cards and quizzed each other... boy are we getting good!
Just because it has been a couple of super short days doesn't mean we haven't been working hard... in fact, we are in the process of tackling retelling. We learned how some strategies we've already learned can really help us! In particular, check for understanding. When we check for understand we ask ourselves who is the story and what is going on. Feel free to look at how hard we worked!
When it comes to holidays in Room 9, we don't mess around... and Thanksgiving was no exception. We were able to draw on our tablecloths, make Thanksgiving cards, do Daily 5, interview one another to decide if we would make good turkeys, and last but not least, enjoy a one pot Thanksgiving feast.
In room 9 we like to think of ourselves as family. We have a poster on our board which reads, "We may not have it all together, but together we have it all". We try very hard to remember that everyone brings someone different to the table, and each person plays a very important part in our "feast"... I mean, how much fun would a Thanksgiving be with just turkey?! *When you look at the pictures, make sure to take a look at the kid's faces when they walk in the room and see it all set up for our celebration. What makes math a little more fun? Candy, of course! :) This week we have been working on place value. Expanded notation, or stretching the number out, as we like to call it is a great way to learn it. I was thoroughly impressed at how well the students are picking up on this skill. Take a look at how hard they worked!
