What's Genius Hour? Genius hour is a passion based learning process where students come to realize how their ideas matter and will someday change the world. By boosting confidence, communication and research skills, children will research a topic they are interested in. By the end of the 4-6 week cycle, students will create something to share with the world based on their new learning. Projects can range from models, to commercials, to ebooks. The students have the power because after all, they are each little geniuses and the world has been waiting for them! :-)
Each first grader in Room 12 now has their own blog! Each week they will post about what they have accomplished during Genius Hour. Feel free to comment and share in our learning by reading our posts each week! After our projects are finalized we will be posting them on our personal sites. Tomorrow at Brewster School we will be celebrating International Dot Day! I will be asking students to blog for the very first time. They will use the inspiration from the story The Dot by Peter Reynolds and write about how they can make a difference. During the day we will also partake in other fun activities such as: Dots candy graphing, learning about lady bugs (and their spots), and creating our own "dots". Feel free to comment and encourage the students of Room 12 as they step out of their small town and into the world (wide web) :-) Information Night will be held this Wednesday, September 11th from 6:45-7:30. Come learn all about what your child will be doing in first grade, what an average day looks like, ask questions, sign up for conferences and explore our room. The more the merrier! See you there!
