Thanks to a few colleagues the friends of room 12 are able to take part in new brain breaks. Based on research, students who take part in these exercises learn more effectively and efficiently. We try and do one to three a day to get our bodies ready to learn! Check out our cool moves!
We have learned so many cool facts about the magic of snowflakes we decided to try and grow our own! We wrote down our scientific process and are anxiously awaiting the result of the experiment. Take a look at the process in progress! We had a spooktastic time celebrating together. During the month of October we learned about bats, Fall and pumpkins. During math we continued to strengthen our addition skills and also learned the commutative property, Thank you all for coming out and supporting us during the Halloween Parade.
We finally made it! We have learned so much through the study of insects. We have learned the insect basics, food chains, cause and effect and adaptations. Through the lessons our answer to the question: Do humans need insects, has changed.
The point in time which I saw the children have an "ah ha!" moment was while learning about food chains, and how even the smallest of creatures can have the biggest of impact on the circle of life. See for yourself with each one of the student's responses and how they either have a different view or their new learning was solidified through research! Our little friends were asked this question at the beginning of the lesson:
Do humans need insects? We created a class Popplet to share our answers. Now after a few lessons, the question was posed again to the students. Check out the comments to view the student's new responses! Due to the weather, our Nature Walk is OFF for today. Thank you for your understanding! :)
They are here! Just a few reminders:
-Students are responsible to change their books in their bags before they go home. Some nights, students will keep the same books because they would like to read the same book again. This is okay! -These books are just an option, they do not have to read them all, or any of them at home. -The levels will range! Some books will be a little easy, some may be just right, and some may be those goal books we spoke about. -Most importantly: Have fun! We have written our first class book together and now, we would like to share with you the digital version. Each student took a picture of their page and typed their own text! Pretty impressive!
The book itself is based on the understanding that math is all around us. We were amazed to see math everywhere! If you like what you see, feel free to encourage the students through a comment! :) Dear Friends,
You did it! Welcome to first grade. I am so happy to have each and every one of you join me for what is sure to be one of your most unforgettable years in school. I am passionate about building a solid and supportive classroom community or "school family", as I like to call it. This will only be possible with your help and commitment to yourself and each other. In order for this to happen, we will take time to learn and practice RSD 13's Core Ethical Values: respect, kindness, responsibility, courage and honesty. I learned many things last year during my second year of teaching, all of which I will teach you during our year together. First, however, I would like to share with you a few bits of information I'd like you to remember throughout the entire year. 1. I believe in you. You are all so different yet you all share a common quality, ability. It will be my job this year to teach you how to use this ability to your full potential. 2. I trust in you. Just as I hope you will trust me, I will trust you'll give me a 100% each day. 3. You are listened to. Although I may be much older than each of you, I believe you have an enormous amount of information to teach me and I promise to listen to you. I promise to listen to your stories, your worries, your interests and your wants and use them when planning our days. 4. You are cared for. It is my goal to make Room 12 your second home. I will do my best to make you feel safe and comfortable each and every day. 5. You are important. I want you to remember how vital (really important) you are to our class. Each one of you will bring something special to our group and will help to make Room 12 be the best place to be in Brewster. One of my favorite sayings is, "We may not have it all together, but together we have it all". Throughout the year you will learn exactly what this means. 6. You will succeed. First grade rocks and by the end of the year you will be so impressed with yourself. I will do everything in my power to make you feel successful in everything you do throughout the year. So to kick of our year I'd like to invite you to write your very first blog. Tell your classmates and I a little about yourself. You can write about your favorite animal, something you did this summer or maybe just something you'd like everyone to know about you! Check out the comments to see mine as an example. Blog away, little ones! :-) Fondly, Miss Zauner Thank you again for a fabulous year!
Little ones- Feel free to blog about your summer here to keep us together during our summer apart. I will miss you and would love to hear about your exciting adventures. See you next year!!! <3 |
Miss ZaunerThis is my fourth year teaching and I couldn't be happier to be back! I am extremely excited to meet the 15 new little ones who will awe and inspire me each and every day. Let the 2015-2016 school year begin! Archives
