What a great time we had yesterday! Thank you to all the moms and dads who helped make the day a success. Take a look at all of these smiling faces!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! What a nice day we had wading in the water, looking for crabs, shrimp, fish and shells. Take a look at the pictures from the day. As always, if you have any you would like me to post, feel free to email them to me and I will put them up right away. Thanks again for preparing your children so well for the trip!' Take a look at the Exciting Events page to see some pictures from our fabulous field trip! I wasn't able to find all of the little ones while wandering around, so if you have any pictures, please email them to me and I will post them ASAP!
Students will also be blogging about their favorite part of the trip! Check it out and leave an encouraging comment! The kids have been working on these informational books for weeks! They picked a mammal out of hat, researched using two sources: PebbleGo and National Geographic Kids, took notes and wrote a five page book. Students then used Little Bird Tales to type their own stories, add photographs, take photos and draw pictures and other informational text features. The effort and enthusiasm showed during this project was impressive for any age... let alone six and seven year olds. Way to go first graders! Be proud. :)
Room 12 is all about sharing our learning with the world. We each have so much to offer, it was be a crime if we didn't! Somehow, it seems, we do not take the opportunity to teach each other enough. This was the perfect project for this. Two students used PebbleGo to research either a reptile and amphibian. They answered research questions, printed out pictures and made observational drawings. After their research was completed, the groups made a poster to present their new leraning to the class. Students were given a few headings and told to have at it! I could not believe the creations! Organized and neat, these projects offered the students with such a sense of pride. The following day students practiced their presentation by deciding who will say what and exactly what they wanted to share. In the afternoon, students got up in front of their peers (no easy task!) and offered up all the new knowledge they had learned. Take a look at the process and swing by the hallway to see them in person! Room 12 has began studying money and we need your help! Please send your child in with a ziplock bag with their name on it with the following coins: 4 quarters 10 dimes 20 nickels 10 pennies The baggies will be kept in their personal math bins and will be sent home at the end of the year. They will help us identify the coins, learn their value and how to add different combinations of coins. Thank you for your support! Check out what we've done so far! :) Well here we are again... another snow day! Maybe you are enjoying a nice quiet day with a sleepy, nacho filled first grader, maybe your little one is already outside burning off those nachos or maybe you are stuck inside with a bored and noisy child. If the noisy part sounds familiar and you are looking for something to do I have found a few ideas to help. Now due to excitement the noise level might not go down, but at least you will get a few pretty adorable pictures or memories out of these activities. *Warning!* some are messy! :) The safe route.. Frozen coloring sheets: http://www.midgetmomma.com/2014/01/10/free-disneys-frozen-activity-coloring-sheets/ This is "snow paint".. A little messy but it would get them outside: http://www.growingajeweledrose.com/2013/12/magic-snow-paint.html Again, a little messy, but a recipe for "snow slime": http://www.growingajeweledrose.com/2012/12/slime28.html These are so cool… frozen bubbles: http://www.housingaforest.com/frozen-bubbles/ If you choose to do any of these activities and take pictures, feel free to email them to me and I will post them! :) Enjoy the day. As you may have noticed (or heard), Reading Counts has started for Room 12. Your little one may have brought an additional library book home in a plastic bag with a white sticker. Take a look at what reading counts is, and how you can help! What is Reading Counts? An optional reading enrichment program run by parents and Ms. Lussier, Brewster's Librarian. Students are given an on-level, independent book and instructed to read the book multiple times. Once a week, students will be given the opportunity to head to the library to take a comprehension quiz. If the student passes, they may choose another book and continue on. If the student does not pass they stick with the same book and try again the next week. There are prizes, and a lot of great books to read! How can you help? For one hour, once a week a parent volunteer will be needed to take students down to the library to take their quizzes and pick out their new books. **If you are able to volunteer please comment below with the following information: -When can you start? -What days of the week are you available? -Are you available in the AM or the PM? I will take this information along with the library's availability and create a schedule which will be posted and sent home. Thank you for your continued support in your child's education! :-) |
